Things are getting better in Wigan

On the 25th February 2009, Arena Homes gained a full Injunction Order in its strongest terms. The injunction was in relation to an assault on a member of Arena Homes staff who was engaging in his daily management functions whilst on an estate in Wigan.

In response to this incident the ASB team have taken the strongest action available; a Notice Seeking Possession has been served and they are now awaiting a court date to hear the case. The anti-social behaviour Injunction will in the interim period safeguard residents on the estate and all staff against any nuisance or annoyance caused by this individual. Criminal proceeding are also being taken against this individual with the help of Greater Manchester Police.

The problems caused by this individual are part of a larger issue on the estate, since summer 2008 the ASB Team have worked intensively in the area as part of their ‘hotspot initiative’. In 6 months they have been integral in removing 3 troublemakers from the estate, secured the above Injunction and are applying to Wigan County Court for possession of the property, they are in the process of agreeing an Acceptable Behaviour Contract with another resident and are installing a full and comprehensive CCTV system on the estate. In addition to this work the ASB Team are working very closely with Greater Manchester Police, the Drug and Alcohol Team and other Arena Homes staff to identify and address all issues of anti-social behaviour. A high visibility on the estate and zero tolerance to tenancy breaches and anti-social behaviour has been employed.  This intensive, hard hitting short-term initiative is still in its infancy but the view from one resident on the estate is, ‘things are getting better’.
